DIUS (the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills) has licensed UKAS to use national accreditation marks (which incorporate the Royal Crown) and to sub-license the use of these marks to UKAS accredited bodies. The Royal Crown signifies government recognition.

UKAS is required to ensure the rules for the use of marks, which are laid down by the Lord Chamberlain, are observed. A copy of the Regulations is available from this web site as a PDF file.
