The requirements for organisations conducting the quality assurance of automated measurement systems are detailed in BS EN 14181:2004 Stationary Source Emissions – Quality Assurance of Automated Measuring Systems. Where relevant this activity is regulated by the Environment Agency.

The Environment Agency has entered into discussions with UKAS with respect to the accreditation of this activity, which includes aspects of testing, calibration and inspection.  A document, produced by the Environment Agency, in conjunction with UKAS and the Source Testing Association, which outlines the requirements for accreditation for this activity will shortly be published by the Environment Agency under their MCERTS Scheme.

Over the next 18-24 months UKAS will be conducting a pilot programme to introduce accreditation into this area.  Any organisations interested in participating in this pilot programme should contact Jeff Ruddle(jeff.ruddle@ukas.com)
