The UKAS Forensics team are seeking individuals to manage and perform technical assessments to evaluate the competence and conformity of customers against specified standards and UKAS requirements.

This is an opportunity to improve the quality of service and support the expansion of quality standards within forensic science and further improve confidence in the evidence being presented to the Criminal Justice System.

This Assessment Manager role supports increased accreditation activities in the sector. The role specifically focuses on the following:

  • To work as a technical assessor in the field of Digital Forensics.
  • To work as part of a team of individuals to confirm conformity and compliance to specific accreditation standards.
  • To review organisations documentation and records to confirm effective implementation of the system (including competency and validation records).
  • Ensure UKAS policy and procedure in both technical and administrative areas related to the delivery of customer work is completed both compliantly and promptly.
  • Provide ‘added value’ guidance on how accreditation and assessment standards could be used by customers to support their growth and development.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively to ensure customers are provided with necessary and relevant information regarding their activities with UKAS.
  • Ensure that pertinent information regarding the assessment is delivered to the assessment team.

The Assessment Manager will contribute to the maintenance of UKAS’ technical competence by:

  • Sharing knowledge and expertise freely within UKAS.
  • Assisting colleagues in responding to general queries from the public or customers related to an area of expertise.
  • Delivering presentations on UKAS activities and representation of UKAS in relevant external forums and committees.

The successful applicant will have:

  • A minimum of 4 years practical experience, preferably at a senior level, and possess up-to-date and detailed knowledge of the requirements of the Criminal Justice System.
  • A high degree of knowledge and experience in one or more of the following:
    • Mobile phone examination
    • Computer analysis
    • Audio enhancement
    • CCTV and video examination/enhancement
    • Information security for forensic laboratories (as per the FSR Codes)
  • High degree of knowledge and experience with respect to case assessment and interpretation as well as applicable techniques/methods and limitation of commercial tools used in the field.
  • A firm understanding of the principles of validation and quality control procedures, and of their effect on implementation.


This exciting and challenging role requires extensive travel mainly within the UK with,  on average, 2 overnight stays a week away from home.
