ISO 55001 (Asset Management – Management Systems – Requirements) was published in January 2014, and specifies the requirements for the establishment, implementation, maintenance and improvement of a management system for asset management.
During the pilot programme UKAS will assess the competence, impartiality and performance capability of applicant organisations using the internationally recognised management systems certification standard ISO/IEC 17021: 2011 (Conformity assessment – Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of management systems). On completion of the pilot programme, UKAS will announce the accreditation of successful certification bodies. The scheme will then be open to other organisations wishing to apply for accreditation.
The pilot assessment programme will commence in August 2014 and be completed in August 2015.
