Today the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) announced the official launch of their Green Homes Grant Scheme, promising the biggest upgrade to the nation’s buildings in a generation.

From today homeowners can apply for vouchers, redeemable on improvements that will enhance the energy efficiency of their homes, covering as much as two-thirds of the cost of works up to a value of £5,000.

There are further benefits for home owners on low incomes who may be eligible for a grant covering 100% of the cost of such improvements up to £10,000.

the scheme is designed to tackle a number of government objectives, including reducing carbon emissions and fuel poverty, improving the nation's ageing housing stock and boosting employment.

Vouchers can only be redeemed for certain works and by tradespeople that have been certified by a UKAS accredited certification body, and that are registered with TrustMark or the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).
