» Call for Applications – Accreditation for ISO 19443 Certification

UKAS is to undertake a Pilot Assessment Programme for accredited certification to ISO 19443:2018 ‘Quality management systems – Specific requirements for the application of ISO 9001:2015 by organizations in the supply chain of the nuclear energy sector supplying products and services important to nuclear safety (ITNS)’. The assessments will be conducted against the requirements of ISO/IEC 17021-1:2015 ‘Conformity assessment — Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of management systems – Part 1: Requirements’ supplemented by PD ISO/TS 23406:2020 ‘Nuclear sector requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of Quality management systems for organizations supplying products and services important to nuclear safety (ITNS)’. PD ISO/TS 23406 has been developed for the Nuclear Sector to assist in conformity assessment and certification according to ISO 19443. UKAS earlier put out a call for expressions of interest regarding a development project for this activity on the 22 June 2018.
The pilot assessment programme is only available to those QMS certification bodies currently UKAS accredited (ISO/IEC 17021-1) meeting the conditions described in the Pilot Terms of Reference document available here .
Applicants will need to submit the following to DevelopmentEnquiries@ukas.com by the 1st May 2020:
- AC1 Certification Body Accreditation Application Form identifying scope (by IAF ID1:2014 accreditation scopes) of ISO 19443 QMS certification activity for which accreditation is sought together with the supporting documents identified thereon (other documentation necessary to participate in the pilot assessment programme required by 26 June 2020 is identified within the Pilot Terms of Reference document).
- Signed Pilot Assessment Programme declaration (see Appendix 1 of the Pilot Terms of Reference Document)
- Development fee (£2000)
The aim of the pilot assessment programme is to develop a credible ISO/IEC 17021-1 plus PD ISO/TS 23406:2020 accreditation programme for certification to ISO 19443. More information including the milestones for the pilot programme can be found in the Pilot Terms of Reference document.
Upon successful conclusion of the pilot assessment programme and the grant of accreditation to applicants who have met the accreditation requirements, UKAS will invite applications from other parties interested in becoming ISO/IEC 17021-1 accredited for ISO 19443 certification activity.
