Technical Bulletin – FSSC 22000 Version 5 Transition Update

This Technical Bulletin is applicable to all Certification Bodies (CBs) currently transitioning to version 5 of the FSSC 22000 scheme and clarifies the necessary actions to achieve transition by FSSC’s stated deadline of 1 January 2020. The bulletin follows on from the UKAS transition letter dated 16 July 2019.

As stated in the above letter, Foundation FSSC 22000 has taken the decision that all CBs must be in a position to audit their customers against version 5 from 1 January 2020 and identifies that there is a direct link between ISO 22000: 2018 and FSSC 22000 v5.

Due to the urgency brought about by the FSSC deadline, UKAS has been prioritising the transition to ISO 22000: 2018 to those CBs also transitioning to FSSC 22000 v5. The process for transition is described in detail in our transition letter.

The transition process is based on a desktop review. Please be aware that any cases where the transition desktop review completed by UKAS does not confirm that the requirements identified in the UKAS transition letter have been demonstrated, including that:

  1. the CB has updated its documentation in line with FSSC 22000 v5,
  2. the CB has updated its competence requirements,
  3. the CB has competent resources available to audit and certify to FSSC 22000 v5,

then these will be identified by issuance of Mandatory Improvement Action Reports that will need to be closed before transition to FSSC 22000 v5 can be granted.

Should you require any clarification on the above, please contact your Assessment Manager.
