» Technical Bulletin – Important Information for Certification Bodies regarding transition to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001

08 November, 2017

Following discussions at the IAF Technical Committee on October 23rd and 24th 2017, and with the transition process for ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001: 2015 now in its final year, IAF has published a communique highlighting the need for further steps to help ensure that certified companies are encouraged to transition to the new standards in a timely manner.

The communique highlights a Resolution that was approved by the IAF General Assembly stating that: -

IAF Resolution 2017-13 –Transitional Arrangements for the ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015

The General Assembly, acting on the recommendation of the Technical Committee, resolved that at the end of the transition period, 15 September 2018, all ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 certifications shall expire or be withdrawn.

As of 15 March 2018, CABs shall conduct all ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 initial, surveillance, and recertification audits to the new versions (ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015). The outcomes of such audits shall be considered by the CAB for further decision on accredited certifications to ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 as deemed appropriate.

The communique also highlights the fact that from 15th September 2018 any certificates that have not transitioned to the new standards will become invalid.

UKAS accredited CBs that have not yet transitioned are encouraged to complete their transitions by the 15th March, after which all certification audits must be to the 2015 standards. If you have not achieved transition by that date you may have to revisit any audits completed to the new standards, depending on any changes you have to make during the transition assessment process.

UKAS Assessment Managers will, at each CB head office assessment, check on the status of certified client transitions and, that audits from 15th March 2018 are being conducted to ISO 9001: 2015 and ISO 14001: 2015 in accordance with the IAF Resolution.
