» UK/US MRA signed to boost post-Brexit trade
18 February, 2019
In preparation for the UK’s departure from the European Union, a Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) on Conformity Assessment was signed between the US and the UK on 14th February 2019 in Washington. The agreement, which was signed by Her Majesty’s Ambassador Sir Kim Darroch and Deputy United States Trade Representative C.J. Mahoney, will maintain all relevant aspects of the current EU-US MRA when the EU-US agreement ceases to apply to the UK. It helps facilitate goods trade between the two nations and means exporters can continue to ensure goods are compliant with technical regulations before they are exported, saving businesses time, money and resources in both countries. Similar agreements have been signed in recent weeks with Australia and New Zealand, ensuring continuity in conformity assessment requirements and safeguarding revenues for British businesses and consumers.
