21 January, 2019
UKAS is assisting DEFRA in the development of a scheme for the certification of compliance with EU Regulation 1151/2012 on quality schemes for agricultural products and foodstuffs and is developing an assessment and accreditation programme for this activity.
UKAS is pleased to announce that the following organisations will participate in the UKAS pilot assessment programme:
- NSF Certification
- Acoura Certification
- Kiwa Agri-Food
DEFRA has produced the scheme document Certification Requirements for UK Producers of Protected Food Names v0.8.
During the pilot programme UKAS will assess the competence, impartiality and performance capability of applicant organisations using the internationally recognised management systems certification standard ISO/IEC 17065: 2012 (Conformity assessment – Requirements for bodies certifying products, processes and services). On completion of the pilot programme, UKAS will announce the accreditation of successful certification bodies. The scheme will then be open to other organisations wishing to apply for accreditation.
The pilot assessment programme will commence in January 2019 and be completed in June 2019.
