UKAS extends IAF Signatory Status

The European Cooperation for Accreditation (EA) has been recognised by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) to expand its signatory status to include Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS), Information Security Management Systems Certification (ISMS), Energy Management Systems (EnMS) and Medical Devices Quality Management Systems Certification. As a consequence, UKAS is now formally an IAF signatory to the IAF MLA for these sub-scopes. This is reflected on the IAF website, which now lists the following under the UKAS entry:

IAF MLA – UKAS

Main scopes:

  • Management system certification – ISO/IEC 17021-1
  • Product certification – ISO/IEC 17065 – 09 Oct 2004
  • Certifications of persons – ISO/IEC 17024 – 20 Oct 2016

Sub scopes:

This represents good news for UK businesses as it allows UKAS accredited certificates to be recognised and accepted around the world. This lowers the cost of accredited certification and reduces the risk of goods or services being rejected by international trading partners.
