ISO/IEC 17020 – Scheme for accreditation, approval and authorisation to Access Security-related Repair and Maintenance Information (SERMI)

The SERMI scheme specifies in detail the process and the bodies required to approve and authorise individual operators (IOs) to be granted access to security-related vehicle RMI according to the following regulations

For light passenger and commercial vehicles (Euro 5 and Euro 6)

  • Regulation (EC) No. 715/2007
  • Regulation (EC) No. 692/2008 as amended by (EU) 566/2011

For heavy duty vehicles (Euro VI)

  • Regulation (EC) No. 595/2009
  • Regulation (EU) No. 582/2011, amended by regulation (EU) 64/2012

The European Co-operation for Accreditation approved that inspection aspects within the scheme can be accredited under ISO/IEC 17020. For more details about the scheme please refer to the following website (http://www.vehiclesermi.eu/about-sermi/)

UKAS has been asked to offer ISO/IEC 17020:2012 accreditation for this scheme and is working to gauge the likely level of interest there may be from organisations who would want to inspect IOs under this scheme. However, the pilot is on hold until the EC makes amendments to the vehicle emissions regulation to update the requirements on the access to repair and maintenance information (RMI) and the usage of the SERMI scheme.
