Scene of Crime Accreditation Technical Seminar

In order to comply with The Forensic Science Regulators Codes of Practice and Conduct, organisations undertaking Crime Scene Examination are expected to become accredited for this activity. To assist organisations in their preparations to meet this expectation, UKAS is holding two half-day seminars to outline the requirements of ISO/IEC 17020:2012 and the associated publications used as part of the assessment.


  • Overview
    • These seminars are aimed at Technical Managers and Practitioners who are taking the lead in their organisations progression toward gaining accreditation to ISO/IEC 17020:2012 for scene of crime activities. These seminars focus on the technical aspects and the role of the Technical Manager.
    • Each session will start with registration at 08.50AM and will close by 13.00PM.
    • The attendance fee is £149 +VAT per person per seminar.
  • Learning outcomes of this seminar

    Focuses on the expectations of the technical areas of work and the role of the Technical Manager in the following areas:

    • An introduction to UKAS and Accreditation
    • An introduction to key documents required during assessments, including ISO/IEC 17020:2012, UKAS publication RG 201, ILAC G19:08/2014, and the FSR Codes of Practice and Conduct
    • General requirements including confidentiality and impartiality
    • Resource requirements including training, initial and on-going competence, facilities and equipment
    • Process requirements Methods and Validation, Sampling, PT, ILC, Internal QC, exhibit handling and standard operating procedures
    • Anti-contamination
    • Common themes identified during assessments
    • Expectations for setting up of mock scenes for witness activity during assessments
    • Scope of Application and next steps with respect to applications for accreditation
