The new ISO 9001:2008 standard has been published and an implementation programme is underway with all UKAS Accredited Management System Certification Bodies. UKAS accreditated certification bodies are permitted to issue UKAS accredited certificates to this new standard with effect from 15th November 2008. UKAS will be updating the appropriate management system schedules of accreditation over the next few months with a view to all schedules reflecting the new ISO 9001:2008 standard by the end Febraury 2009.
The EU Emissions trading scheme has now entered phase II (2008-20012). The European Accreditation guidelines EA 6/03 rev 02 has been revised to reflect the changes for phase II and was re- issued July 2008.
UKAS accredited verification bodies have been advised of the requirements for accreditation as a EU ETS verification body and those that are currently accredited for phase II EU ETS. Those organisations not yet accredited for phase II are required to satisfy UKAS in advance of them completing the annual verification of phase II emissions
