World Accreditation Day, celebrated on the 9th of June every year, is an initiative by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) to raise awareness about the crucial role that accreditation plays in various aspects of life. This year’s theme, Accreditation: Empowering Tomorrow and Shaping the Future, highlights the transformative power of accreditation in a rapidly changing world.
Accreditation, as a cornerstone of quality assurance, enables organisations to demonstrate their competence, credibility, and compliance with internationally recognised standards. It plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and trustworthiness of products, services, and systems across industries, from technology to transportation, sustainability to security, and inclusivity to innovation.
By marking World Accreditation Day, UKAS can highlight the significance of accreditation in building trust and confidence among consumers, businesses and regulators.
Celebrating World Accreditation Day also allows UKAS to recognise the efforts of accredited Conformity Assessment Bodies and provides a platform to showcase the role accreditation plays in facilitating international trade and economic development. It is also important to acknowledge the contribution of professionals and organisations involved in the accreditation process, emphasising their commitment to upholding standards and best practices.

The World Accreditation Day 2024 poster competition
This year, as usual, IAF and ILAC invite participants to get involved with World Accreditation Day through the poster competition. The poster contest is an opportunity for talented individuals to showcase their creativity and contribute to the promotion of accreditation.
How to participate
Participating in the poster contest is simple:
- Create an original poster that reflects the theme of Accreditation: empowering tomorrow and shaping the future.
- Submit your entry using the official submission form before the closing date of 9 February 2024.
The winner of the competition will receive a prize of $1,500 and two runners-up will each receive $500.
