Scope: A small inspection body, looking to be accredited for provision of inspection services to a single technical area of asbestos surveys. This would include a scope of Domestic, Commercial and Industrial premises and management and refurbishment survey types. Demolition being a survey type rarer in nature and less likely recently included in scopes due to the complexity of maintaining competence and a lack of business demands.
This also includes reinspection scope that is a common activity requested for new applicants in this industry.

Pre-assessment (optional but recommended)
- Office effort: £2,310 – 2.0 assessment days (includes review of quality manual and associated technical documents, preparation of reports and associated assessment paperwork)
- Site effort: £2,310 – 2.0 assessment days (includes Lead Assessor and Technical Assessor on-site (remote Teams assessments are also now an option) for one day each to discuss the application with the customer, review policies and procedures across the Standard and discuss actual/proposed implementation of the requirements of the standard. This would also be used to also identify any significant gaps in customer interpretation or implementation of the standard requirements.
- Travel and subsistence expenses: £494 (flat rate of £247 per assessor per site day. This is not applicable for remote assessments.)

Initial assessment
- Office effort: £2,310 – 2.0 assessment days (includes review of quality manual and associated technical documents, preparation of reports and associated assessment paperwork)
- Site effort: £5,197.50– 4.5 assessment days
- Includes 1.5 days site for the Lead Assessor focusing on quality management aspects and;
- Technical Assessor on-site for a day in the office focusing on technical management requirements and 2 days out on survey sites watching a minimum of 3 surveys. This would need to cover 2 complex and diverse combinations of the 3 property types and the 2 survey types and a reinspection.
- Close-out effort: (estimated as this depends on the extent of findings raised and is charged in minimum units of 0.25days): £866.25 – 0.75 assessment days (review of single submission of evidence to clear findings raised at the initial assessment)
- Travel and Subsistence expenses: £1111.50 (flat rate of £247 per assessor per site day)
Total initial assessment cost: £9485.25 +VAT (including 3 witnessed surveys at assessments)
Following clearance of any non-conformities raised at the initial assessment, accreditation is granted for a period of 4 years in which there will be 3 surveillance assessments, and 1 reassessment conducted approximately every 12 months, with the first assessment taking place 6 months after the date of grant of accreditation.

Surveillance assessment (Years 1-3)
- Office effort: £1,102 – 1.0 assessment days (includes review of customer documentation relevant to the surveillance visit, preparation of reports and associated assessment paperwork)
- Site effort: £2,755 – 2.5 assessment days (includes Lead Assessor on site for 1 day and Technical Assessor on-site for 1.5 day each to conduct a sampling assessment of a selection of activities for which accreditation is held)
- Close-out effort: £551 – 0.5 assessment days (review of single submission of evidence to clear findings raised at the Surveillance assessment)
- Travel and subsistence expenses: £617.50 (flat rate of £247 per assessor per site day).

Reassessment (Year 4)
- Office effort: £1,928.50 – 1.75 assessment days (includes review of quality manual and associated technical documents, preparation of reports and associated assessment paperwork)
- Site effort: £3,857 – 3.5 assessment days (includes Lead Assessor on site for 1.5day and Technical Assessor on site for 2 days to conduct a full assessment of all activities for which accreditation is held)
- Close-out effort: £551 – 0.5 assessment days (review of single submission of evidence to clear findings raised at the reassessment)
- Travel and subsistence expenses: £864.50 (flat rate of £247 per assessor per site day)
Total reassessment cost: £7,201 +VAT

Case study assumptions:
- Costs are based on the 2025-26 price list and are exclusive of VAT. UKAS reviews pricing on an annual basis and the day rate may increase for subsequent years.
- A normal level of compliance is observed at the organisation, where additional issues are identified, extra assessment or additional close out effort may be required.
- The organisation is single site and has no activities requiring assessment which are based outside of the United Kingdom.
- The organisation is not conducting any niche technical activities which UKAS may need to employ external expertise at a rate higher than £650/day.
