Bringing the UKAS Academy to Manchester – expanding access, strengthening capability

Michelle Tindale, Head of Commercial Training introduces the UKAS Academy’s latest venue.

Responding to learner feedback

At the UKAS Academy, we know that effective learning environments help people grow in competence and confidence; two things the system depends on. That’s why we’ve listened carefully to our learners, who told us they wanted more face-to-face opportunities outside the South East. In response, I’m delighted to share that we’re expanding our regional training offer with a new venue in Manchester.

Manchester: the clear choice

Earlier this year, we ran a LinkedIn poll to help guide our decision-making as we explored options for a new regional training venue. The response was exceptional, with a high level of engagement and interaction from our followers. We offered a shortlist of possible locations, but Manchester stood out as the overwhelmingly popular choice. It became clear, by a significant margin, that this was the destination that would best meet the needs and preferences of our learners. And now, after careful evaluation, we’ve secured a new partnership with the Marriott Manchester Piccadilly, where we’ll be delivering a regular programme of in-person training from summer 2025 onwards.

A growing network of venues

This marks an exciting step forward in the evolution of the UKAS Academy. Alongside our established venues in Staines, Denham Grove (Uxbridge) and Ashorne Hill (Leamington Spa), the new Manchester location enables us to serve a broader range of professionals who want the benefit of face-to-face learning without the travel.

The value of face-to-face learning

Face-to-face learning remains a critical part of our training offer. While digital delivery offers flexibility and convenience, in-person courses provide space for different types of discussions, peer-to-peer engagement, shared experiences, and real-time insights that enhance understanding and retention.

Learners benefit not only from our expert trainers but from their peers, exchanging perspectives and building professional confidence in a collaborative environment. For many, the act of stepping away from their usual setting (whether home or office) into a dedicated venue can be a welcome break. It often enhances concentration, fosters deeper reflection, and provides the mental space needed to fully absorb new ideas and engage meaningfully with others.

Training to suit all learning needs

This approach complements our wide-ranging portfolio of delivery options, which includes:

  • On-site training at customer premises, tailored to organisational needs;
  • Live virtual courses, offering the same interactive experience as in-person sessions but with added flexibility;
  • eLearning modules, designed for learners who prefer to progress at their own pace and on their own schedule.

Whether you’re looking to build foundational knowledge, develop deeper expertise, or stay up to date with the latest changes to standards and requirements, the UKAS Academy has a solution to suit. Our growing programme spans introductory courses, advanced workshops, and focused updates across accreditation, conformity assessment, auditing, management systems, and more. With formats to suit all learning preferences, practical needs and budgets, we’re here to help every delegate build capability with confidence. By continuing to invest in our face-to-face provision, we ensure that professionals have access to the right mode of learning to suit their needs, learning styles and working environments.

Expanding with purpose

The decision to add Manchester to our network of venues is more than just a new postcode—it’s a tangible example of how we continue to evolve in response to our learners’ needs. By broadening our physical footprint and refining how we deliver value, we are extending both our geographical reach and our commitment to delivering high-quality, accessible education. This expansion reflects our mission to support professionals in every part of the UK to engage with training that meets them where they are—whether geographically, professionally or personally. By creating greater accessibility, we’re empowering more individuals to build their capability with confidence, wherever they are.

Committed to your success

At UKAS, we don’t just provide training—we equip people to uphold standards with clarity, judgement and rigour. Every learner’s competence reflects not only on their organisation, but on the integrity of the wider system. That’s a responsibility we take seriously and a purpose we’re proud to deliver on.

We’ll be releasing course dates and further details for the Manchester venue in the coming weeks. So whether you’re based in the North West, or simply prefer your training with a side of Mancunian hospitality, I look forward to welcoming you soon.

Because where UKAS accredits, the UKAS Academy equips. And when you succeed, the system works.
