BS 99001 - Quality Management Systems Standard for the Built Environment

About BS 99001:2022

BS 99001:2022 is a British standard for specialised quality management in the built environment. It is designed to enhance construction project safety, quality and sustainability. It builds upon ISO 9001 to add sector-specific requirements for competence, risk management and design.

The benefits of 99001 certification are improved operational efficiency, reduced waste, enhanced client trust and a competitive advantage in procurement. It helps organisations comply with the UK Building Safety Act 2022.

Accreditation of certification to ISO 7101 provides confidence that organisations have met rigorous standards in respect to the delivery of quality in the built environment sector.

Current status

UKAS is conducting a pilot accreditation programme for BS 99001:2022. This project involves the following certification bodies from our existing customer base, all of whom are collaborating with the UKAS Development Team to explore and refine the accreditation process for this emerging standard.

  • Atlas Certification Limited
  • BSI Assurance UK Ltd
  • NQA Certification Ltd
  • Steel Construction Certification Scheme Limited

The pilot aims to identify the optimal approach for assessing certification bodies against BS 99001 and related requirements. Through rigorous evaluation and stakeholder engagement, UKAS is working to establish an effective methodology that ensures accreditation is reliable, consistent, and provides trust and confidence to users.

Once the pilot programme is complete and the assessment approach is finalised, UKAS will begin granting initial accreditations.
