Nuclear Supply Chain | New Projects
About the programme
UKAS is undertaking a project to extend UKAS accreditation activity for ISO/IEC 17021-1 to include accredited certification to ISO 19443. Additionally the project will consider the requirements of ISO IEC TS 23406.
- ISO 19443:2018 Quality management systems. Specific requirements for the application of ISO 9001:2015 by organizations in the supply chain of the nuclear energy sector supplying products and services important to nuclear safety (ITNS)
- ISO/IEC TS 23406 (Technical Specification) Nuclear sector requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of MS for organisations supplying products and services
- ISO/IEC 17021-1:2015 Conformity assessment – Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of management systems
In 2018 UKAS issued an expression of interest notice and in 2019 published a technical bulletin regarding QMS requirements within the Nuclear Energy Sector Supply Chain. Applications for participation in a pilot scheme were received in March 2020 and consequently three certification bodies were accepted on to and are progressing through the pilot programme where the timescales have been extended due to the negative impact of Covid-19.
It is hoped that despite this, UKAS will be able to announce accreditation in early 2022 for successful pilotees.
