This course aims to provide an awareness of ISO/IEC 17025: 2017. In particular how the business processes of individual laboratories may be informed and enhanced in meeting its requirements. The course focuses from a personal perspective, reflecting primarily on the structure, resource, process, management and general requirements.

What are the benefits?

The course will enable delegates to gain an awareness of ISO/IEC 17025: 2017 and its function as a framework for demonstrating competence and to gain an understanding of conformity – all of which is achieved through a combination of presentations, exercises and discussion.
 
Please note: Delegates of this course will be required to complete a pre-course exercise prior to attending.

Meet the trainers

This course is delivered by: 

George Sanders
George joined UKAS in 2008 as an Assessment Manager, undertaking both the Lead Assessor role to ISO/IEC 17025, ISO/IEC 17020, ISO 17043 and Technical Assessor role to ISO/IEC 17025 for asbestos testing, becoming the UKAS technical focal person (TFP) for asbestos in 2012. Moving to his current role as Accreditation Support Manager in 2015, internal and commercial training became his ‘bread and butter’ on a day-to-day basis whilst supporting UKAS’ own audit schedule for ISO/IEC 17011 compliance and retaining the roles of Lead and Technical Assessor. Prior to joining UKAS, George worked in different roles in the commercial testing/inspection sector, before being promoted to Laboratory Manager in an ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO/IEC 17020 accredited asbestos consultancy. George holds a BSc in Physics and certificate of competence in asbestos (CoCA). George enjoys walking and a spot of DIY that’s not too challenging.

Trevor Thompson
Trevor Thompson started his career applying electronics to classical metrology at the National Physical Laboratory.  He joined the UK’s first national accreditation scheme for testing laboratories, NATLAS at its launch back in 1981.  He has assessed and accredited many laboratories, mainly Electrical and Physical  while serving UKAS for many years.  Trevor was the UK BSI representative  at  ISO/CASCO for the rewriting of ISO/IEC 17025 and a member of the drafting group.  He also represented UKAS at EA and ILAC level and is a Fellow of the Institute of Measurement and Control.  His main interest is presently in the promulgation of the understanding of the new  version of the Standard, Decision Rules, simple uncertainty of measurement regimes and laboratory management systems offering added value through accreditation.  Trevor has written and delivered laboratory accreditation training material worldwide.

The course is aimed at any individual conducting either testing, sampling or calibration activities and/or, responsible for some aspect of quality and/or technical support activity within their organisation. Attendance is supported by a pre-course exercise.
