Assessors – Lay/Patient Representatives

Are you interested in becoming a UKAS Independent Lay Assessor?

Are you passionate about quality? Committed to standards?

The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) currently assesses a number of healthcare schemes covering Diagnostic Imaging, Physiological and Medical Laboratory services in both NHS and private settings. We currently successfully use Lay/Patient representative assessors working alongside our technical teams in Imaging and Physiological services and this remit may expand in the future.

Qualifications and experience

You should ideally be educated to degree equivalent level and have experience of health care tests/investigations and/or be a member of a local or national Lay/Patient representative organisation.

Training

You will receive in depth training to prepare you for completing assessments. Training is funded and provided by UKAS.

Assessments

Each assessment consists of a 1-2 day(s) on site visit with Lay involvement every four years. There is limited time (0.25-0.5 day) reviewing documentation remotely via an electronic portal before each visit. The number of teams that you join is dependent on your availability and our requirements. There is a nominal fee paid for your time.

UKAS contracts independent technical assessors on a day rate basis, either as self-employed contractors or through their current employer.  The level of work is dependent on the needs of our customers and therefore UKAS cannot guarantee specific levels of work,

Travel and expenses

Some travel in the UK, and overnight stays may be required. Reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
