About UKAS

UKAS is the UK’s National Accreditation Body, responsible for assessing organisations that provide certification, testing, inspection and calibration services. Our focus is on conformity assessment, ensuring technical competence and integrity across a wide range of sectors.


The Role

We are seeking Independent Technical Assessors with expertise in:

  • Hardness Calibration (e.g. Brinell, Rockwell, Vickers)
  • Materials Testing (e.g. tensile, impact, fatigue, corrosion)
  • Rail & Rolling Stock (e.g. component testing, maintenance inspections)
  • Functional Safety (e.g. safety instrumented systems, SIL assessments)
  • Carriage of Dangerous Goods (e.g. packaging, labelling, transport compliance)
  • Pressure Equipment Directive (e.g. conformity assessment of pressure vessels and systems)

Assessors will support UKAS assessments by evaluating technical competence, data integrity, and quality control practices. You’ll be part of a team conducting assessments against ISO/IEC 17065, ISO/IEC 17020, and/or ISO/IEC 17025, reviewing documentation, witnessing tests, and providing expert input.


What We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from professionals with:

  • Proven experience in one or more of the above fields
  • Strong understanding of calibration and inspection techniques
  • Familiarity with relevant sector regulations and standards
  • Experience in ISO/IEC 17065, 17020 or 17025 accredited environments
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to assess data performance, integrity, and quality control
  • Experience in internal or external auditing (training available)

Desirable areas include:

  • Method validation and traceability
  • Risk-based assessment approaches
  • Technical judgement in complex testing environments

Contract Details

  • Day rate basis, either self-employed or via current employer
  • Flexible workload based on customer demand
  • Can be done alongside a full-time role
