25 May, 2011
Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (CHFT) has become the sixth diagnostic imaging service provider to become accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to the Imaging Service Accreditation Scheme (ISAS) standard. The Trust’s accreditation covers the diagnostic imaging services delivered at both the Calderdale and Huddersfield sites which includes: radiography; ultrasound; mammography; CT; MRI; therapeutic radiology procedures; PACS; and radiology nursing.
CHFT runs the two main hospitals in Huddersfield and Halifax – Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and Calderdale Royal Hospital. It also provides outreach services in the local communities and delivers healthcare for more than 435,000 people across Calderdale and Kirklees.
On receiving the news that the accreditation was granted, Diane Rooney, Service Lead PACS and RIS, CHFT, who led the ISAS project team at the Service, said: “Thank you so much for this – it’s a very proud moment for us.”
Dr Sarah Gurney, Clinical Director and Consultant Radiologist, CHFT, added: “Achievement of ISAS confirms that we deliver a high standard of service to our patients and we are delighted to have gained the accreditation. It acts as motivation for us to continually improve the services we offer. We aim to continue to improve to ensure patients receive the best level of care possible”.
Paul Stennett, Chief Executive, UKAS commended the Trust on their success and said: “I would like to congratulate all the diagnostic imaging staff at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. By achieving your ISAS award this demonstrates your on-going commitment to delivering the highest quality patient focused care to your local community. Your patients also have the additional confidence that the diagnostic imaging services they receive are of the highest standards and will continually improve for their benefit”.
Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust’s achievement follows the successful grant of accreditation by UKAS of five other diagnostic imaging service providers: Cobalt Unit Appeal Fund (Cheltenham Imaging Centre); 4 Ways Healthcare Ltd; Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust; Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust; and West Suffolk Hospital NHS Trust.
A special award ceremony was held at the UK Radiological Congress (UKRC) in Manchester in June to celebrate the achievements of the first cohort of UKAS accreditations to the ISAS standard.
