» DEXEU Minister addresses UKAS Annual lunch

11 October, 2017

The Rt Hon Baroness Anelay of St Johns DBE, Minister of State at the Department for Exiting the European Union, addressed the UKAS Annual Lunch on October 10th to provide an update in the Brexit negotiations, and to confirm the Government position on UKAS’ role in supporting the UK economy.

Baroness Anelay stated that UKAS accreditation is vital for facilitating the trade in goods, and giving consumers confidence in the quality and safety of products. She also confirmed that the role of accreditation will be crucial to the future success of the UK, just as it is to supporting the economy now.

She acknowledged that officials in the department have been working closely with UKAS and others in the conformity assessment sector, and that they value access to the expertise and feedback on priorities as the UK leaves the EU, including access to EU markets, future domestic regulation and continued participation in international standards and accreditation bodies.

In introducing Baroness Anelay, Lord Lindsay, UKAS Chairman welcomed the close co-operation established with the Department for Exiting the EU. He assured those present that UKAS is committed to retaining its influence worldwide to ensure the continued international recognition of certificates issued by UKAS and UKAS accredited organisations.
