» Information Commissioners Office announces consultation on draft Privacy Seals Framework Document

25 September, 2014

The ICO has announced its intention to endorse the development of at least one privacy seal certification scheme, to be operated by an independent third party in the UK. The intention is that the privacy seal scheme will act as a ‘stamp of approval’ highlighting an organisation’s commitment to maintaining good privacy standards. The ICO’s endorsement will be conditional on the scheme’s operator achieving accreditation by UKAS.

The ICO has now released draft framework criteria for privacy seal schemes for consultation which can be downloaded from the ICO website. The ICO will invite proposals for a privacy seal scheme in autumn 2014, with a view to selecting at least one proposal in early 2015. The ICO is aiming to launch the first round of endorsed schemes in 2016.

A further announcement will be made when the invitation for proposals is issued.
