» Join UKAS & FSA for a virtual CBD Product Approval Event

29 July, 2020

UKAS and FSA will be holding a virtual (via MS Teams) “round table” event on August 18th 2020 10am - 1pm to discuss the FSA’s approval process of CBD Products with laboratories, proficiency scheme providers, certified reference material providers, government departments and agencies, CBD producers and stakeholders.

In February 2020 the FSA  announced  a deadline of 31st March 2021  for CBD businesses to submit valid novel food authorisation applications, after which, only products with a submitted valid application will be allowed to remain on the market. UKAS Accredited analysis will be required to demonstrate the products are safe, not only in terms of CSB content but for all constituents.

ISO/IEC 17025 Accredited laboratories may be approached by the CBD industry to perform this testing. And organisations accredited to ISO/IEC 17043 and 17034 may be approached to supply Proficiency schemes and Certified Reference Materials.

This event will include presentations from the FSA on the Novel Food Approval Process and experts from laboratories such as FERA and LGC on the testing of CBD products. The event will include open forum discussions on the approval process, analytical techniques and analytical specifications and requirements and how these can be developed. The accreditation process for organisations wishing to extend their scope of accreditation for CDB products will also be discussed.
