Exploring a career in quality: Building confidence, capability and conformity

With World Quality Week 2025 fast approaching, this year’s theme — “From Compliance to Performance” — invites us to reflect on the evolving role of quality and the opportunities it presents for professionals across every sector.

A career in quality offers much more than process management or standard setting. It’s about building confidence in systems, capability in people, and conformity that ensures the integrity of outcomes we all depend on. At UKAS, we see every day how careers in quality contribute to something greater: protecting the reliability of systems that serve consumers, patients, industry and society as a whole.

A move into quality — at any stage of your career

One of the most rewarding aspects of the quality profession is that people often arrive here from other disciplines. Whether your background is in healthcare, engineering, science, education, or technology, your expertise is transferable — and often transformative.

Across UKAS, many of our colleagues have made that journey. They’ve moved from delivering work within a system to helping assure the capability and conformity of that system itself. It’s a natural and fulfilling next step for those driven by rigour, consistency and continual improvement.

Careers in Quality webinar – 10 November 2025

To explore this theme, UKAS will host a “Careers in Quality” webinar on Monday 10 November, ahead of World Quality Week 2025.

The session, chaired by Jackie Burton, Process Improvement and Feedback Manager, will feature colleagues from across UKAS who have transitioned into accreditation roles from a variety of sectors — including healthcare, forensics, construction, and calibration. Each will share their personal career journey and what it means to contribute to the UK’s national quality infrastructure.

Representatives from the UKAS Academy and HR Talent Team will also take part, discussing how UKAS supports professional development through learning opportunities and career progression.

Building confidence, capability and conformity

Quality is about more than process — it’s about people. When individuals invest in their professional capability, they strengthen the confidence others can have in them. This belief sits at the heart of the UKAS Academy, where our purpose is simple: confidence built on competence.

For anyone looking for a career that combines purpose, professionalism, and the opportunity to make a measurable difference, the quality sphere offers all three.

Join us at 12.00 on Monday 10 November to hear how others have built rewarding careers in quality and discover where your own expertise might take you next.
