OPSS Call for Evidence on the UK Product Safety Framework

UKAS would like to draw customers and stakeholders’ attention to the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) Call for Evidence on the UK Product Safety Framework which was published on 11 March.

The Call for Evidence forms part of OPSS’ Review into the UK’s Product Safety framework.

Specifically, the Review wants to ensure that the product safety framework can adapt to new technologies and business models, and offer the opportunity to regulate in a way which suits the UK economy. It will focus  on the majority of consumer products but will also go beyond consumers to protect users of, for example, machinery, lifts, equipment used in explosive atmospheres, personal protective equipment and pressure equipment.

OPSS is seeking a wide range of views on the UK’s overarching product safety regulation and is very keen to hear from those organisations with experience or evidence about how the product safety system is working or how it could be improved or simplified, to participate. This Call for Evidence will therefore be of particular interest to many of UKAS’ direct and indirect customers.

Responses should be submitted online using the dedicated online portal: https://beisgovuk.citizenspace.com/opss/productsafetyreview/, however, where this is not feasible, responses can be emailed to: [email protected]

The deadline for responses is 3 June.
