Meet the people – Lee Humpheson

What is your name? Lee Humpheson.

What UKAS department do you work in? Agri-food, life sciences & asbestos (AFLA).

What is your job title? Senior Assessment Manager.

How long have you been with UKAS? Six years and six months.

What do you like most about your job? Variety – Assessing and being out and about at customer sites undertaking lead and technical assessments one day then decision making the next or looking after the needs of a team of assessment managers and mentoring/coaching newer colleagues.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? I am a keen runner, running whenever work and life allows. I am also very involved in family life and getting outdoors in our home-built camper van.

Why is accreditation important? Ensuring a minimum standard of competence in laboratories enabling end-users to choose with confidence.

What’s your most memorable moment at UKAS? Seeing the reaction of customers who you have taken from being an applicant through to receiving their grant of accreditation, which for some can be a long road.
